College is starting, yay! It can be an excited as well as a little scary time for most of us. Because of covid, it can also be harder as there are so many restriction we have to follow. But trust me, you are going to have the best time of your life. You may be staying in the same town or moving to another state/province or even going to a whole new country. All these changes are going to make the person you'll be proud of one day. Here are some of the tips for all the newcomers.
Make Friends: Maybe you're an extrovert, love making friends or you are someone like me who has hard time meeting new people. But it is always best idea to meet and greet as many people as you can on your first day. Trust me, everyone is nervous, everyone wants to make friends but it's overwhelming on first day. Don't get scared to make the first move. Ask people around you where they are from, what courses they are enrolled in. The conversation breakers are always the hard part. Once you pass that part, you get a friend. I have got some friends on my first day and they are still in my life after 5 years.
Make Schedule: Schedule is very important part of your college life. On your very first day, start making schedule for upcoming months and exam. Colleges are different from schools. You are totally on your own. It is always recommended that you schedule your upcoming assignments on the starting of your study term. We are humans, we forget things. It can happen to anyone that one day you go to college and someone tells you that there is an assignment due today which you haven't started yet. So, write all those important days in your phone calendar.
Save Money: This is a big one. If you're someone like me, I never cared about money. And it was something I was regretting after college. Once we finish the college, we all are in some sort of debt. Colleges are expensive. It's not just fees, we have to take care of books, residence and the FOOD too. Now, we can't control the other expenses, but we can control food expenses. I had a bad habit of eating outside and it costed me a lot. Let's just think about that $5 coffee for four years and it's just coffee. If you can, you should give some of your time to cooking. I know maybe you don't know how to cook, but, look we are in college, this is the time to learn. Youtube can be your best friend to learn cooking. Saving those couple bucks today can take you long way.
Try new things: Go out, learn what your city has to interest you. Almost every college has some sort of groups or clubs which can be a really great way to meet new people with same interests. For example, if you like hiking, join a hiking group. This way you have something to do on your weekends and hey, you have your group buddies to do it with you.
Don't be too hard on yourself: Starting of anything new is nerve-racking. It's same with colleges. You might miss your family or your old high school friends or it's just the new place you're not getting used too. All you need to do is just give yourself some time. You can call your parents, or go visit someone who lives near you. All I want to say is do something that you love and never be hard on yourself. Again we are humans. It takes time to get used to new things. Just put a smile on your face and take it day by day.
If you have some time until your college starts, go visit a place you love or meet people who are near to you. I wish you all have wonderful time. Share some fun college stories with me if you can!
